Kenosha prepares for potential unrest as the jury begins deliberations.

The White House released a statement from the President today in response to the trial verdict, continuing the call for peace.
I urge everyone to express their views peacefully, consistent with the rule of law. Violence and destruction of property have no place in our democracy. The White House and Federal authorities have been in contact with Governor Evers’s office to prepare for any outcome in this case, and I have spoken with the Governor this afternoon and offered support and any assistance needed to ensure public safety. A panel of jurors has begun deliberations in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, 18, who is facing five felony charges for shooting three men during a night of protests and riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on August 25, 2020.
With the unknown verdict, the city of Kenosha is bracing for unrest in the wake of the trial. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has put 500 National Guard troops on standby. Downtown business owners said they were ready to board up their shops and offices should protests turn into looting, arson and violence.
In addition, Governor Evers called for peace from the crowds gathering in the city.

As deliberations began, a small group of protesters were already gathered on the steps of the Kenosha County Courthouse.
Along with other groups, some have come to the courthouse steps to pray. Rabbi Dena Feingold of Beth Hillel Temple lead a group prayer Tuesday evening.

- For the jurors not to be intimidated by protesters’ shouts or presence, but to establish their verdict based on facts and law.
